La Familia maintains an active social service unit addressing a broad range of community needs. Professional staff finds solutions to critical needs elicited during clinical sessions. Social workers coordinate closely with agency clinicians who address intra and interpersonal issues while social service staff mobilizes agency and community resources to alleviate family crises. Many of the service requests are related to food and housing. Clients have no money to pay rent, they may face evictions, there may be problems with landlords and/ or they may need funds to pay delinquent utility bills. For many, paying bills means taking food from the table. With funding, in kind contributions and donations , La Familia is and has been able to solve many of these critical family needs. |
Although La Familia does not have an employment support unit, social service staff work closely with local businesses and small enterprises to refer clients for needed employment. In some instances, community residents call our agency asking people to work for them. In those cases, La Familia acts as an advocate for both clients and employers. Emergencies and immediate crisis related to food and/or our social service staff also serves clothing. We also translate for our clients and other organizations. We work on immigration issues in partnership with key organizations. For many, La Familia is the first step to secure responsible and responsive immigration resources. At La Familia we view newcomers as assets and talents who have arrived to assist America. |
